share your disappointment in the results

in my app category presentation controller +(added value features) the result was completely based on the video, from you tube analytic i can see only 3 judges saw the video before judging period and 2 of them didn't even completer to tone minute and none of them downloaded the desktop app, if you are making a challenge that you expect the developer to work on for 2 months at least have enough respect for the developer and see the full video even if it didn't have fancy effects;

one of the competitor slide easy have a really professional video but coming to the facts his app is not even practical it require the presentation to be PDF (who use PDF to make a presentation?) and the connection to be made form the phone thru MHL wire which require user to hold extra wires and adapter if the show room is using VGA projector; even going to the feature department you ca use hand gesture to control the app which is not professional since the user base is business men/ teachers what kind of professional person will slap the air to navigate around the pages.

another app Presenter, it's noting but a navigation controller no added features and require the phone to initiate the connection.

my app is on time setup and easy connection thru gear only and feature wise i think it's the best where it serve a real need for the user; i tough this challenge about how good your app is, and not the video, that why i spent mote time on the app; this is completely unacceptable if you are going to waste 40 days of my time at least give me a fair judging chance, you could have extended the judging period and compared the apps instead of blindly choosing the best looking videos.

congratulation and sorry for the other developers , i am not trying to ruin your future chances ,i am just greatly disappointed by their plane judging method and lack of respect for developers like me who spent great amount of time building the app and they didn't even bother to see the full video .

Don't worry. The video of my private submission app has been seen only once in the judging period by a guy in Poland! Don't think any judge even tried to watch it :)

  •   •   about 3 years ago

@kmbriedis same in my case the only saw it before the judging period probably were browsing thru the entries, no views during judging period, hoping at least to get a least comment after i was dragged in this idiotic challenge then i will delete my app and be on my way.

I can't believe that there are people who have more than 1 entry chosen as winners while after so much hardwork, others don't get a fair chance of the same.
What criteria sincerly was used? to select winners, the idea or the project?
The judges should make submissions as to why the other projects didn't win

The results are definitely non-linear .
But the truth is that everyone worked hard, irrespective of the outcomes and the feelings associated with the outcomes. I believe this is to be expected, given the biases (and circumstantial effects) associated with human judgement. In the end, I believe we are all winners and have learned alot from this process whether our expectations were met or not ...

More importantly, there is an opportunity to make an impact on the contest by sharing your experience . A single person voicing an opinion (on any aspect of the contest .. e.g selection criteria, fairness etc) will have (arguably) little effect. However, when there is a consensus and plethora of opinions and viewpoints regarding the matter, which is presented in a balanced report, there is greater opportunity to effect change . With this in mind, I'd like to invite you gain to share you experience , via this poll http://goo.gl/o0XN1U .. if you haven't already done so. To all who have responded, thanks, an aggregate of the results will be posted at the end of the poll period. I believe this will move the discussions forward.

P.S I must note here that I not being insensitive to anyone's feelings or opinions. All opinions are valid.

Same me too. I spent nearly 2 months to wait for result but was upset when checking winners list. In many projects I didn't understand why it passed, no reason can convince me. But I'm also trying to be positive, because some people made 4 more projects which weren't chosen any of them. This is a challenge, and it's my most unsatisfied challenge.

I had such high hopes that at least one of the six apps I submitted would make it to the next round. What can you do? Cry myself to sleep tonight... that's what I'm going to do.

I enjoyed developing on the Tizen platform. I also enjoyed making the ridiculous videos for the challenge submission where I was trying to capture my inner Billy Mays. If you want to waste about ten minutes of your life that you'll never be able to get back, you can check out the videos here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6AhZ38NAco&list=PLrVzHwGkVfexrwo1xpzwk6FJNbG9YrENq&index=4

@mike . You did put in alot of effort. Tough to accept the results. The good part is that you created alot of stuff, and also you can extend/improve them for other contests or contexts. I like the sound of motion video the most though :) And its great that you enjoyed learning to develop for the tizen platform.

Well, it seems that winning applications are... whatever! All you need is a good movie.
There are almost no games. I suppose that Jury members don't play games :)
Btw, really? Application which reminds about drinking water?!?!?

  •   •   about 3 years ago

    8 x Remote camera
    2 x Drink Water reminders
    2 x QR Code readers/scanners
2 x Alcohol at blood measure app

  •   •   about 3 years ago

@PiotrWpl wow really that is ridiculous ,i know they have to leave room for the same app category to compete at the second round but 3 should be the maximum number, and for apps with a simple idea, one is more than enough.

@Enderfuzz to be honest a lot of developer expected games to have a very low chance of wining, even putting the fact you can have a better game play on your phone a side, there still the fact that this challenge is made to show the gear 2 users what kind of different things you accomplish your gear.

  •   •   about 3 years ago

Yeah @asaamdkalj Totally agreed on what you said. When I was brainstorming ideas for the challenge, the first rule that has to apply is that it has to be something that is not available on the phone. In this case, it is the Pedometer sensor.

@tongyi87 like your app, that is one nice way to motivate users to go on a run.

    Hello,
I developed Lie Detector application - simulator of retro polygraph.
Panel of judges had to test against uniqueness - my app si unique, there is no other app like this, and my app is only on the contest that uses pulse sensor.
    Also it is nice desinged:

    and this app did't pass.
So what to say... what was the real juding criteria?

  •   •   about 3 years ago

@vykthur you don't have to slap to our face that you have won

  •   •   about 3 years ago

lgrabiec - it is indeed nice - but the heart rate monitor isn't available via the official SDK is it? I thought (and may be wrong) that that would make it ineligible ?

The current gear 2 sdk does not allow 3rd party apps access the heart rate monitor.

  •   •   about 3 years ago

    @lgrabiec, don't be greedy, you've won already 1 prize :P
Think about people who submitted 6 games, and haven't won anything :)

  •   •   about 3 years ago

I believe that finalists just were randomly selected.
Do you really believe that, lets say, Vice President of Mobile Products from Nuance Communications will spend 30-50 hours of pure time to just watch all our submission videos? I'm not saying about installing each of 900+ apps and try it on the real device.

So question about real juding criteria is rhetorical.
Uniqueness? Commercial Potential? Haha! Of course, someone will buy Gear2 to play another clone of 2048 on it :)

And of course we will never get any comment from judges or Samsung representatives.
Shame for Samsung and good luck to all "winners".

  •   •   about 3 years ago

macmorrison - I have used official, public SDK.

  •   •   about 3 years ago

lgrabiec - I did say i may be wrong :)

  •   •   about 3 years ago

Did you noticed that on the official rules page under judging criteria. So nothing to blame for the judges.

"(5) Judges are not required to test the Application and may choose to judge based solely on the text description, images and video provided in the Entry."

  •   •   about 3 years ago

    @Thusitha
    And this is true life-lesson.

But I'm still disappointed, that company like Samsung treated our work in such way.

  •   •   about 3 years ago

@Thusitha the problem here is did they even read the description and see the video, how come my video and kmbriedis didn't have any hits during judging period.

  •   •   about 3 years ago

I understood that snapshots were taken on july 17th - that could well of included downloading youtube videos - so views are probably only public not judges?

  •   •   about 3 years ago

BigLCD killls ;) Especially fourth screenshot

  •   •   about 3 years ago

My video received multiple hits from Korea, Poland, USA and few more countries during the judging period. I didn't advertise my app. So the hits came from judge or youtube search.
Most watches finished the video too.

I believe the judges did watch the video. Although I can't say how many.
