Deadline cry - my 3 words
Hello,
I want to share my opinion about all people which are now crying because deadline is coming and their apps are rejected or still in certifications.
1. This is contest so everyone has same amount of time
2. Everybody know the rules at the beginning
3. Samsung should not change deadline, because changing it will be not fair to all developers who pass certification earlier and have heads on the neck.
So please don't cry about deadlines because it was said CLEARLY (http://gearapp.challengepost.com/updates/1832-important-certification-process-faq)
Quotation:
"NOTE: Certification review may take one week or more. It is highly recommended that any bug fixes or updates be resubmitted for Certification as early as possible. Samsung does not guarantee that additional updates will be reviewed by July 31st."
Once again : "Certification review may take one week or more" so please stop crying.

That's what I accully would like to say, I know it's hard to notice that your chance is over and good luck for everyone missed the deadline. But this is the different between contests and everything else.

Well it is good that you have got your submission in and certified if anyone wants to plea about their entry why are you so cynical about it.
Firstly some of the participants got to know about this competition late while some are even students who had their major exams in between and if they worked their @#$% off to get their entry in its their right to ask for a little help. Its not that they didn't built their app,in any new store certification there are certain rules that people miss by chance its not that they built a wrong application.
Moreover It will be best for a healthier competition to have a bigger lot of apps to judge from, are you worried because that diminishes your chances of winning then I would say you aren't worthy enough in the first place. If you don't need any help then don't ruin it for others who are asking for help.
Regards
Nick

If I am a student, I were take timetable in my account, on the other hand Samsung don't assign deadlines regarding exams time because this is an international contest.
Finally, all problems are regarding to certification and unexperienc action during submission.
Again, this is a contest its all about deadlines Sir.
Regards.

Well without any disrespect my point is only that if someone wants some time only in clearing a certification it should be provided because since one has put a good amount of work in their entry.
Its not that someone is asking for extra time for developing and updating. Its a simple certification process thats not even in their hands, and I have participated in various contests where I have seen big companies(Intel, microsoft, blackberry) increase deadline due to certification delays in their competition. and for god sake its a app building competition not a 100 m sprint, sometimes there are stupid issues like icon and screenshot.
If someone wants some time let the organizers think over it why are you negating their plea.
Regards
Nick
If someone wants to

I wish the best for everyone.
Last year I created an app for the spen contest, I missed the daed line because of 12 hours.
I spent time & money developing this app.
Now I learned how to respect deadlines.
The blame always is the developer . The train can't move backward in order to let someone late catch. Doesn't it?

Well I generally agree but what in case when my app is rejected because I'm missing some weird permission (com.samsung.android.providers.context.permission.WRITE_USE_APP_FEATURE_SURVEY) that nowhere is mentioned or shown ?! And apparently is only needed on Android 4.4,whereas I tested my apps on Android 4.3?
So I lost over a week because certification takes now a lot longer than normal and am very likely to miss deadline, and it is not because my app is faulty but because Samsung missed to inform developers of such permission.

@pav31
I am sorry to hear that.
I know certification takes too long and its too bad that rejecting apps can be for really little issues.
But as I mentioned earlier, developer is always the blame.
And as developers we will not focus on changing rules. But to adapt with it. This might come with a cost.

@everest3d
Developers must not be blamed because of poorly estimated dates.
If you see previous contest like this by Samsung : http://developer.samsung.com/ssac2013/main.do
, All these contest had full month for certification period. I don't know why only this challenge has 14 days!!! Did Samsung and/or ChallangePost assumed that this contest will not get that much response from developers?

@devit
Noone here is asking for the submission time to be extended. Everyone is talking either for faster certification either for certification time to be extended. Think of the cases where developers have respected the deadlines and have submitted on time. App fails and they immediately resubmit according to your quotation. I can't see anything wrong. It seems this is only a matter of the certification process and time.

Please take a look at these links: http://developer.samsung.com/ssac2013/note/notice/view.do?searchAtcId=0000000438 and http://developer.samsung.com/ssac2013/note/notice/view.do?pageIndex=1&searchAtcId=0000000424. At the previous contest both dates had been extended. So in this contest if the participation is higher than expected, I think that Samsung could do something similar. Anyway, this is a contest so good luck to everyone!

@jaydev
Although its too short period but over 2000 devs finished their submission.
Amr Essam Elsayed Taha Ali • almost 12 years ago
If some developer finish submission and certification on 1st july and developers asking for extension got say 7 days
So developer got extension got more chance to enhance their apps. Is that fair!
Tamir R • almost 12 years ago
@everest3d
How do you know the number of submission? Someone else also said 2800. Where can you get that information?

@tr2014 from the 'someone' :)

"Firstly some of the participants got to know about this competition late while some are even students who had their major exams in between and if they worked their @#$% off to get their entry in its their right to ask for a little help. "
It's the real world, who cares if you are student, blind, paralyzed or whatever.
Everyone got same chances, deadline is deadline.
You can develop your app in May 8, 2014 and put it to certification in May 9, 2014.
It was obvious that Certification Period: July 18-31, 2014 will be enough only for one, max two certifications.
@nicks707
"Its not that someone is asking for extra time for developing and updating. Its a simple certification process thats not even in their hands"
Certification is part of the contest. Nobody should care if it's certification or development time.
@Jaydev
"Developers must not be blamed because of poorly estimated dates. "
Like I said, this is real life, It's not important if you are developer, UI designer, marketer, video maker. Not only your code matters, its mainly about deadlines, product, video, graphics. It was clear that leaving certification at last minutes its a bad idea.
@Jimis
"At the previous contest both dates had been extended. "
Terms and deadlines should not be changed when contest already is running because this is unfair to people who put their apps for testing and certification earlier even sacraficing app functionalities.
Navi N • almost 12 years ago
@devit: well as i said earlier cynicism at its best. guess what you are not the organizer so just chill and let them take the call. why are you being so pessimistic about it? why are you afraid of the competition? I think you haven't participated in much competitions.
Amr Essam Elsayed Taha Ali • almost 12 years ago
@nikes707
He is not afraid anything but unfair talk about extending deadlines for lazy developer.
If you have done many contests before, you should be a professional on catching deadlines.
Aren't you?
@all
there will be no deadline extension because submission already closed. Previous spen contest was extended before submission close.
So prepare yourself for the next contest instead of asking for extension which is not acceptable by me and I think almost contest members.
Good luck for all

I think that organizers did not estimate the certification period properly. From July 17 to July 31, that is 10 business days and it is taking 8 business days at least to receive some feedback from Samsung.
Apps submitted near the deadline of July 17 5:00pm EDT were submitted ON TIME, but in case of some bug there is no way for these apps to get fixed and certified before July 31.
Besides, in many cases there have been weird bugs like required permissions in android manifest that were not documented on official materials.
Extending the certification period makes perfect sense and it would be fair.
Dimitrios Tzimos • almost 12 years ago
@everest3d
Keep in mind that we are not talking about LAZY developers who ask for submission deadlines extension. It is not fair to call lazy the developers who according to the rules submitted their apps on the 17th of July. We are talking about developers who submitted ON TIME! The point is that participation seems to be higher than expected in this great contest and the certification does not seem to be enough to handle such number of submissions.
Amr Essam Elsayed Taha Ali • almost 12 years ago
@jimis
Yes sir, I know you r correct.
But there are over 2000 developers done with the process of submission.
Samsung gave the certificate period as warning to developers that : hey! Remember that certification takes some time to complete.
If you calc the real development time from 5 may to 17 July = 73 days!!!
I can develop and submit an app every 10 days. What developers are doing in this long period!!
Now you request an extension ignoring many developers respected the deadlines!!
@challengepost & @Samsung, please go forward with the contest next step and be fair.

Dear everest3d I don't know where you get this information about 2000 developers from. Just after the contest I did crawler to crawl all the entries for this contest. Yes there is around 2000 ... but from all of this 2000 the script showed that around 800 where qualified ... why ? Because some of them are missing video, some of them are duplicate.
I have snapshots for all the entries on my hard drive. i have even seen some good entries which are not qualified, because of lack of video :(
Now if from those 800 lets say 30% will be disqualified, because of long certification process, than this will be a real lost in my opinion for Samsung.
This contest is made to fill the market with good apps. Some of the apps which are good will be simply rejected, because of long certification process. In my opinion this is lost. Moreover if the app is not perfect the person will be working to improve it for sure if he will be not rejected.
Now if the app will be rejected from the contest, just because of the certification for sure the person abandon development of the app.
What is my point here ? My point is that this would be lost for the Samsung market ... simply. I happy with possibility of taking part in this contest. All my apps has been certified. But if we want to earn on them in long term Samsung must create good ecosystem. Good ecosystem means developer, developers, developers, developers.
So it's better for Samsung give people possibility to fix the bugs simply ... This is my opinion.

Please stop this debate. I think it is our fault who can not certified our app in time. I am student I already participate a lot of contest but this time I think I can not meet the certification deadline. I have exam during first half of this contest. But at the end of the day It is my fault.
@who do not want to extend time:
Please consider the person's emotion who gave a lot of time to develop this app but do not have enough time for certification(or failed certification for a silly reason and do not get a second). Try to support/talk these developer calmly rather than defend with strong words.
Amr Essam Elsayed Taha Ali • almost 12 years ago
Good luck for all developers in this contest and upcoming contests
