Challenge acceptance based on Video than Certification !.
I got a message saying that the gear video is not showing the gear functioning and ineligible to participate. The problem here is I don't have the gear device and mostly relied on Remote Test Lab. But on Jul 17 most of the gear devices were hanged state or not responding to user clicks. I tried from different locations with my friends and results are the same.
What I feel is the preliminary selection should be based on App certification process since Certification team will be testing the app for working with actual devices.
If possible Challenge-Post should allow to contestants to upload fresh videos till certification period. I guess it will be pair with everyone as well.
And also the original apk files are uploaded for validation with images as well.
Kindly consider the working apps on devices rather than just video alone. Let the panel of judges decide which app/video is good.

I think the issue is with time, if theres 1000 entries - they will all need to be viewed - its quicker to watch 1000 videos than install and play with 1000 apps
then they can shortlist and install / use those to get to a final 200 i guess.

I agree some time its not working as planned. What I feel is the preliminary judging should be based on app certification rather than Just video alone. And also they should consider screen shots and app content as well.

The rules state: "a URL for a video on YouTube, Vimeo or Youku, which demonstrates the main functionality of the Application; and"
Unless I am missing something, I don't see a requirement that the video be taken of it on the actual device for it to be grounds for DQ? The rules do stipulate:
"(5) Judges are not required to test the Application and may choose to judge based solely on the text description, images and video provided in the Entry."
So if a judge finds it unlikely that that application would function correctly on the gear, they can correctly choose to skip trying it. But a pre-judging phase DQ doesn't seem warranted as the rules never specified/clarified how the video was to be taken.
EDIT: I need to edit this as I didn't realize I could actually see the OPs video to better understand the situation. If the DQ was because his video didn't show his applications functionality at the time of the submission deadline, than I understand. The above comment is only about DQing entries based on the presentation format of the video.

Rejecting an app by it's video is like rejecting a good restaurant because it does not provide toothpick !!!
It is my humble request to all the admins to consider this comment and stop rejecting app by watching only videos.
There are many developers in world who don't know how to create videos OR how to present the their app via video.
I hope admins will reply with positive feedback.
Also, I want to mention here that updating of app is allowed till it's certification process completes before 31st July. So apps which are updated in this period must allowed to upload new videos.

Serena/Moderator, Let me know your final thought on this. Whether you will be accepting my app to the challenge if certification passed. This way I can plan to fix if any issue occurred during certification process and right now its under device test stage.
Here is the test history to get the video but always had one or another issue. I guess the only missing part on the video is Gear functionality(Anyway certification process will test this before passing the app to next stage) and working host video functionality is shown.

Good Apps should be judged base on it's merits, and not by having good video or not.
Especially, a new ecosystem like Tizen Gear where new apps are in demand, encouragement and support should be given to developers embracing it.
Having said that, it's not wise for Samsung/Challengepost to penalize and disqualify applications as long as it can pass certification and alternative video is provided at Samsungapps marketplace.

Hello All,
Thank you all so much for your tremendous work and participation in the Gear App Challenge!
I hope that I can clarify the rules a bit for you, as well as the judging process as it relates to certification on Samsung Apps.
Regarding the video requirement, the Official rules state that:
“Entries submitted on the Challenge website must include, without limitation…a URL for a video on YouTube, Vimeo or Youku, which demonstrates the main functionality of the Application.” The term “Application” is defined in the rules as “a working software application using the Samsung Gear Dev Tool available at http://developer.samsung.com/samsung-gear (an “Application”). The Application must run normally on a Samsung Gear 2 (or Gear 2 Neo) Device.”
Understanding that not all participants have access to a physical Gear 2 device, videos which demonstrated the Gear application’s functionality on a Gear 2 emulator or other means of representation will also be considered, however per the rule noted above, the Gear App functionality must be demonstrated.
To the question about judging based on videos or application testing, the rules state that “Judges are not required to test the Application and may choose to judge based solely on the text description, images and video provided in the Entry.”
However, per the update to registrants on July 16th (http://gearapp.challengepost.com/updates/1832-important-certification-process-faq), the judges for Round 1 will review your submission to gearapp.challengepost.com (which cannot be edited after the July 17th 5pm EDT deadline), as well as the latest version of your Gear App that has passed certification via the Samsung Galaxy Apps Seller Office on July 31st.
As you can imagine, we received a great response to the challenge and have many submissions to review. We are reviewing all submissions in the order they are received, and we will reach out individually with any questions regarding a submission.
If you have questions about your submission, please feel free to reach out to us directly at support@challengepost.com.
Thank you all for your patience and participation!
Best,
Serena

Hello Serena101,
Thank you for detailed answer which clears all things.
But I think there is still some Grey Area.
Let me simplify,
"judges for Round 1 will review your submission to gearapp.challengepost.com (which cannot be edited after the July 17th 5pm EDT deadline), as well as the latest version of your Gear App that has passed certification via the Samsung Galaxy Apps Seller Office on July 31st."
Does that means "MODERATORS" can reject an application NOW (before 31 July) because video link given to "ChallengePost" do not demonstrate Gear Application's Functionality, even if there is a new video at "Samsung Seller Office" which demonstrate Gear Application's Functionality???
How fair is this???
Here I'm referring "Moderators" as peoples who defines whether an app is eligible for Judging or Not.
@Serena101
Here in this comment I'm not criticising "ChallangePost", but I'm asking for an answer which can solve my doubts about such situation. Will moderators follow exact same procedure as I've written in this comment? Will they mark such entries as ineligible for Contest? Or they will follow different procedure in such situation? Please reply detailed answer.
Thank You...

Hi Jaydev,
Thank you for your question. We take competitions very seriously and work extremely hard to make sure submitters are not disadvantaged.
The challenge rules state that “Entries submitted on the Challenge website must include, without limitation…a URL for a video on YouTube, Vimeo or Youku, which demonstrates the main functionality of the Application.”
Because the deadline for the challenge submission was July 17th at 5pm EDT, that is also the deadline for the demonstration videos, which - per the rules - must demonstrate the main functionality of the application.
I understand that you don’t think it’s fair for some submissions to not move forward because they did not include a demonstration video in their challenge submission by the posted deadline, but it is very important that we hold all submitters to the same standard, and that means following the rules as posted.
If you have further questions, please feel free to write to us directly at support@challengepost.com.
All the best,
Serena
